Cabbage Soup

 

Serves: 12

 

 

8 cups water                                                   

2 ½ sticks butter                                            

2 onions - sliced                                              

1 cup yellow split peas                                         

1 cup of cabbage - shredded                                       

43½ ounces sauerkraut                                       

½ teaspoon black pepper                                      

 

Place water and butter in soup pot and bring to a boil.  Add onion and yellow split peas, reduce heat and simmer for 1.5 hours.  Add fresh cabbage and sauerkraut and season with fresh ground black pepper.  Continue to simmer for another 1 - 2 hours.
