Hungarian Butter Horns

 

Serves: 36

 

 

1 package yeast                                                

4 cups flour                                                   

½ teaspoon salt                                              

1 cup of butter                                                    

3 egg yolks                                                     

½ cup sour cream                                             

1 teaspoon of vanilla extract                                     

3 egg whites                                                    

1 cup of sugar                                                    

1 ¾ cups walnuts - finely minced                             

 

Crumble yeast into flour, salt and butter.  Add 3 beaten egg yolks, sour cream and 1 teaspoon of vanilla.  Mix thoroughly.  Divide dough into 6 parts, roll each part like piecrust, and divide into 8 wedges using confectioners' sugar on board.  Spread 1 teaspoon of filling on each wedge, roll, like butter horn and bake at 375º for 20 minutes.

 

Filling:  beat 3 egg whites; add sugar and walnuts.
