Serves: 36

½ cup milk

1 Tablespoon vegetable shortening (heaping)

½ cup water cold

2 tablespoons sugar

1 egg beaten

½ cup water warm

1 package yeast

1 teaspoon of salt

4 cups flour

In a bowl, combine sugar, egg and warm water with yeast.  Scald milk and add shortening.  Add scalded milk and shortening along with cold water to mixture in bowl.  Add salt and flour.  Turn out on a floured board and kneed to make a ball.  Place in greased bowl and let rise 30 - 40 minutes until it's doubled in size.  Take out and shape into rolls and place into baking pan.  Let rise again until doubled in size.

Bake at 350º for 25 - 30 minutes.  Butter tops when you take them out of the pan to cool.
